Jessica Schulte Walker here - As an insurance broker, I understand how frustrating it can be to feel left in the dark during contract negotiations between two major healthcare entities. Many of you have reached out, concerned about the ongoing dispute between Scripps Health and Anthem Blue Cross, and I want to share the latest updates we’ve received.
First, let me acknowledge that neither Scripps nor Anthem Blue Cross has been releasing much information publicly. This lack of communication understandably creates stress and uncertainty for patients who depend on Scripps for their care and Anthem for their coverage. Rest assured, I’m committed to keeping you as informed as possible.
Here’s what we know: last week, Scripps responded to Anthem’s most recent offer, and Anthem is currently reviewing their counterproposal. While these negotiations remain ongoing, the good news is that both parties are now closer in terms on costs. However, there is still work to be done to finalize the other terms of the contract.
In another positive development, Scripps has shifted its negotiation efforts from an out-of-state team to an in-state California-based negotiator. This move is a significant step forward, as it demonstrates Scripps commitment to finding a resolution with Anthem Blue Cross.
Based on the information we have, we do believe an agreement will ultimately be reached. The primary question is for us is when? These negotiations can take time as both sides work to find a middle ground that addresses their respective priorities.
Finally, I want to reiterate an important clarification again: these negotiations do not impact Anthem Blue Cross Medicare Supplement members or Blue Shield of California members. If you fall into one of these categories, your access to Scripps remains unaffected.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as we receive them. In the meantime, if you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help navigate these complexities and advocate for you.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as this process unfolds.
